A reconstructed stable invites visitors to travel back to 1875, when the North West Mounted Police founded Fort Saskatchewan.
Low-tech interactives help place visitors in the mindset of the past. Questions, metaphors and photographs engage minds, while hands are kept busy uncovering clues, building a Red River cart model, or exploring Métis architecture. Bugle calls evoke the sounds of a paramilitary fort, and figurines can be arranged in drill formations.
Role: Interpretive planning, research and writing
“The City of Fort Saskatchewan has worked with Joan Lawrence on a couple of interpretive projects. She is easy to work with, great at researching unique and interesting details, and detailed oriented. Joan has the ability to know what is most interesting to people and how to capture their attention and keep it.”
